Celebrity Pet Style: The Obamas
As the chief official photographer for the White House, Pete Souza’s Instagram account is brimming with amazing candid moments of the Obama family, like the president dancing alongside Usher or Michelle reading with miss Piggy. Yet some of our much-loved snaps are of the two furriest members of the Obama family: Bo and Sunny. Scroll through Pete’s feed and you’ll find photos of the two Portuguese Water Dogs hanging out in the Oval Office, the rose garden and normally living the high life you’d expect from two presidential pups.
Pete snapped this photo of president Obama, the first Lady, Malia and Sasha with Bo and Sunny last Easter. In the background, a cherry blossom tree is in full bloom – a sure sign that spring is finally here.
Decked out in bunny ears, Bo and Sunny are getting into the Easter spirit. This is actually a cardboard cut-out of the dogs that was part of the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll in 2015. This year, Bo and Sunny are even featured on keepsake souvenir eggs.
Here is Bo – aka the first pet dog of the united states – sitting in the Oval Office, which was re-decorated by Michael S. Smith. The Los Angeles-based decorator added this woven rug with quotations from Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, and this plush cotton-rayon sofa in a honey hue.
Bo looks majestic as he lays atop a velvet red armchair in the outer Oval Office. We love how the gold detailing of the chair adds a touch of regal charm.
In this photo, Sunny lounges on a weathered wood bench in the palm Room. A lush potted plant and lattice-style wall covering gives this room a garden party feel. Pete captioned this shot “Okay people, it’s no secret that Bo is my favorite. but a lot of people are upset that I don’t post enough pics of Sunny. So this one’s for you.” how can Pete pick favorites? They’re both so cuddle-worthy!
